Job description
The Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) plays a pivotal role in providing specialized expertise and guidance in mechanical engineering principles, practices, and technologies within the organization. The SME serves as a key resource for technical consultation, problem-solving, and decision-making in various mechanical engineering projects and initiatives. Acts as a mentor to maximize the efficiency of the mechanical team.
Main responsibilities
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and expertise of mechanical engineering principles, theories and best practices.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to cross-functional teams, project managers, engineers and other stakeholders on complex mechanical engineering issues, challenges and solutions
- Analyzes and solves complex mechanical engineering problems by applying innovative approaches, critical thinking and sound engineering principles
- Propose creative solutions to overcome technical challenges and optimize performance
- Lead or contribute to the design and development of mechanical systems, components and products
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure designs meet performance requirements, safety standards and regulatory compliance
- Participate in research and development initiatives to explore new technologies, methodologies and materials in the field of mechanical engineering
- Provide training, mentoring and knowledge-sharing sessions for junior engineers and team members
- Transfer expertise and best practices to improve overall technical capabilities within the organization
Desired skills
- Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec with a degree in mechanical engineering
- Minimum of 10-15 years' relevant experience as a mechanical engineer, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Proven success in supervising all elements of the mechanical development cycle
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships internally and with senior management
- Organized and able to manage priorities and demonstrate rigor in work execution
- Dynamic and entrepreneurial leader who is motivated to achieve objectives
- Very good command of the French language and good knowledge of the English language (oral and written), with strong oral and written communication skills.
